Sept.2010, Why can't President Obama control the runaway spending of the Pentagon?
It has been almost 2 full years, long enough for President Obama to learn the ropes/doors of his new job. So is it lack of will,,,or is this new President unable to make changes to the big bloated incompetent bureaucracy that is the Federal Government?
The new "Department of Education",all hail, can not keep the California administrators of Public Education, principals and superintendents, from 'golden handshake' and 'golden parachute' ,plus bloated salary, STEALING from the still failing, near bottom, public system. And the repudiated "no child left behind" of Pres. Bush jr. ,,,is still ,,,THE RULE,,, 'IN EFFECT' !?
The NPS still acts the same silly, stupid, anti-visitor, pro-Republican Party way,,,in taking $300 from a 'mass transit' bus/charter bus at the gates of Yosemite, even with just one passenger is on it. Or letting the major business, the 'park concessionaire', set the park policy of the level of guest services ,,,instead of the National Park Service,,,such as only one 2-hour Valley Tour tram per hour, instead of the two vehicles that the public ask for.
Or Muir Woods National Monument, where a meadow is used for overflow parking,besides the two small paved lots and all the unimproved road edges for half a mile,,,but a large parking garage there and eco-bus service has been needed for ,,,DECADES!!
Zero progress is being made on cleaning up San Francisco Bay and Delta. More abandoned vessels are polluting the waters,like the recent salvage-long abandoned tug episode,,,and the stupid continuation of the moth ball fleet. If the SIERRA CLUB won't or can't fight to keep the 2 River Campgrounds in Yosemite Valley open,,,why should anyone still be a member of the Sierra Club !?

My S.F. boss owns his own small business and in less than 20 years of cutting regular maintenance on a fleet of busses by running on bald tires and telling the mechanic to 'fix it ,,,maybe,,,next month' he has become a multi-millionaire. This is what greedy ambitious business people do. Cut corners any way they can to get rich as fast as they can. Including stealing wages, yep, regular hourly wages from some of their gullible 50 employees. Unless properly regulated, this is what businesses do.
And not paying taxes ,if they can get away with it; Let some else 'have to' pay a fair share of taxes to derive the American benefits. There is no way this guy can threaten to 'leave for a 3rd world country',,,his biz is in S.F. !! Dual citizenship aside,,,for now.(And besides, California is quickly becoming that polluted, unregulated, unfair, unkept, littered ugly, and infrastructure crumbling, spoiled rich vs chattel /slave working masses of poor in a state of a 'third world country' condition,,,)
So what has this ambitious greedy guy done with the Jr. Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich ? Really. Actually. He has bought cheaper second and third rate buses, because they cost less but breakdown more and perform less well/reliably.
New Setras and new MCIs. The Setras have a too small designed air compressor system to operate the main door and the air brakes, duhhh!!, and the new MCIs have a lousy hard ride compared to the 1980s old MCIs ,,,and the new MCI-'J's often stall on hills and possibly railroad tracks !! So scary. Not Prevosts or Van Hools or reliable quality busses.
And more new flashy cars to drive. And instead of a east coast vacation condo, a much larger and more expensive vacation house on the east coast. Oh, and huge contributions to politicians. I don't see a lot of 'economic stimulus' there.

Strange tourists i have met in California on vacation,,,
First, there were the two women from 'russia' who talked the whole 12 hour tour in the front seats of the tour bus by the driver and microphone. Isn't that right out of the Dirty Corporate Tricks and Other Unethical Behaviors Handbook ? What business competitor would not do that.
And the 20-something rich princess from a SF Nob Hill expensive hotel who got on a big tour bus and kept on,,, and kept on,,, telling the 'tour' talking driver ,,," i partied so hard last night i need to sleep so please NO MORE TALKING",,,on a tour bus?!
And three women who were 75 minutes late getting back to the tour bus in Yosemite Valley.
And the rich middle aged guy in the expensive fancy clothes with the silk neck scarf, from 'Spain',with his family in the front of the bus who grabbed the steering wheel of a moving 45' bus on highway 120 outside Yosemite National Park,,, of a moving 45' bus,,, and tried to turn it around,,,a moving bus with many tourists on it. And the CHP would not come out to talk to this dangerous foreign-passport tourist with "you have left the scene and area of the incident".
And the Greek tour guide with 'his' 10 Greek tour passengers on a 55 passenger full bus of various other countries and various other hotel guests out of SF ,who kept telling the driver of the tour bus "my people are jet-lagged from the flight yesterday and need to sleep today SO NO TALKING !!" on a all day tour bus.
And the family that runs an expensive private charter yacht out of the West Coast who think it is the high-paying guests who have to suffer the daily loud and rude verbals attacks of the son, in public, against the father-captain of the large luxury yacht.
And the Japanese tour guide out of an L.A. Japanese travel agency using a S.F. japanese bus company who for years told well dressed Japanese visitors on tour buses to Yosemite National Park that "there is gold in the steams here" just to secretly laugh and watch the Japanese tourists run into a park stream with their expensive shoes on with 'gold fever' to search for yellow or shiny specks. Taking many many rocks out of the park. And the S.F. japanese tour bus company was aware of this constant insult to foreign Japanese visitors.
And the old guy with the last wish to die in Muir Woods who had his whole large family on the regular SF to Muir Woods minibus, with a hidden bottle of oxygen. He stopped breathing when we got to the parking lot in Muir Woods and the driver asked if there were any nurses or doctors on board. Two nurses and a doctor, of 37 passengers , put him horizontal on the back seat and gave him an exam and established an airway. The driver called "911" and the ranger ran out, a fire truck from Sausalito showed up with siren and lights, and another emergency vehicle with sirens and lights showed up, an ambulance. The old guy was taken to San Rafael city's hospital with his large family and the last word was he lived.
And the 3 screaming babies on the Carmel tour bus, returning to SF in 2 hours, who screamed bloody murder the whole way. For 2 solid hours. One was up front with the mother and the old grandmother who kept saying to these high pitched operatic constant screams, "oh, isn't he the cutest". There was another screaming child and his/her incompetent parents in the middle and,,,another screaming child and his incompetent parents in the back. No pacifiers cuz "oh, we don't believe in them". Isn't there some way to fine the incompetent parents,,,after an hour,,,not 2 full hours ?? Especially on airplanes.

COMCAST has a huge problem with premium channel selection;You can not tell from 999 channels which ones you can watch !!
Does COMCAST really ,,,really ?,,,expect us to 3 stations at a time scroll through 999 options, with NO HIGHLIGHTING or STAR MARKING of those channels WE HAVE PAID FOR and CAN WATCH ??!!
Really. We have to open each and every one of 999 channels, just to find the ones , scattered all over the place, that we have paid extra for and can watch. Really, is that the best that COMCAST can do in 2010 ?!! And look at all those 'NOT AUTHORIZED' on each channel we are clicking thru ? Really !!

Civilized rich countries like Germany and Britain should be very carefully dealing with the USA's current case of Deregulation Mania
Deregulation is still the acid kool-aid of choice, it seems, even tho the Republicans soundly lost national control and we came very near-believe?-to a second Great Depression. President Obama has selected a cabinet of Deregulators who made millions from the farce.
Congress is still deluded by the corporate campaign contributors who are still strong for deregulation. And enough Americans believe we can do 'ok' or better with less government, less taxes, and less laws-a runaway Pentagon budget?- that are enforced so business can do pretty much whatever it wants. Like blatantly steal payroll hours/days from employees.
What does this mean to civilized , more advanced economies? The USA is still irresponsible and unbelievable and dangerously untrustworthy. If it wants to be so reckless with its future, then other countries should beware.

July 2010 , President Obama's federal Department of Labor is anti-honest worker and pro-wage stealing corporations !!
I heard about the book on wage stealing in America, so i checked my multi-million dollar profitable employers wage stub against my records ,,,and found my California employer had been stealing not just 15 minutes a day, but two complete 16 hour days of work per 2 week paycheck !!
So i called Obama's San Francisco office of the Department of Labor and was told to tell my painful ,employee as less powerful position story ,,,to three different civil servants!! They finally said 'you have a obvious strong legal case of wage theft ALREADY,,,so get MORE EVIDENCE and CALL a FOURTH one of us again,,,oh, and this has just been a CASUAL CONVERSATION so NOTHING is RECORDED or OFFICIAL" ,,,!!

A possible MegWhitman'sWorld for California:less taxes for the rich mean,,,more taxes for you making less than $200k/yr !!
More potholes,,,not less. Just spent over $200 on tire and alignment,,,a yearly expense in current California.
More debt spending with the lowest and costliest bond rating in the USA,,,AND NO CHANCE OF A BALANCED BUDGET,,,just keep dumping our debt on our future Californians.
Oh, and MORE DEREGULATION,,,not that Enron dvd was enough for the Republicans in bankrupting California,,,and PG&E's recent ballot issue failed because we Californians can no longer trust them,,,and the stinking corrupt machine that has become Sacramento. So we voters just took away the corrupt practice of gerrymandering,,,and made the state wet sand beaches public property with the Coastal Commission,,,and even put some brakes on the former rapidly rising property taxes with the private property tax revolt in the 70s of Prop.13.
Expect smog and traffic and everything to get worse,,,just so the super-rich don't have to pay their fair share ,a pittance for millionaires, in taxes.

What have we learned ,so far, from the BP-Gulf oil spill?
BP can not be trusted in the vital environment, either by what they say or what they do.
The current standard of B.O.P.s is unsatisfactory ,,,and yet little is being done to improve this critical piece of equipment.
Kevin Costner was right,,,for over 20 years !!,,,he has better oil clean-up technology in his oil centrifuge units than the Big Oil Industry !!
Oil Dispersal chemicals, unlike the Exxon Valdez-Alaska oil spill, should not have been used, and certainly not the most toxic ones when safer ones were on the shore.
The Feds should have taken charge IMMEDIATELY tho it is curious neither the Pres. Obama nor the Congress was keen on the idea. A poor environmental stewardship score for all three !!
If oil leaks are happening all the time,,,hundreds of gallons/barrels a month worldwide, then who should set a higher standard for clean-up. Certainly not the Oil Industry. Nor the President. Maybe the U.N. ?
The USA Nation and public should be encouraged to submit ideas to improve technology, strategy for spills, and other related ideas,,,with PRIZE MONEY and a AWARD. Let it be a world wide invitation !!

NPS , can you be more incompetent? The Gulf Goof-off,,,Now the Yosemite Concessionaire, Delaware North, is doing as little as possible for guest services !!
I was in Yosemite Valley on Monday 7 June 2010 and the shuttle system was overloaded for the number of free shuttles they had out on the road there. Also the 2 hour paid Valley Tour tram was sold out at 60 paying passengers in only one vehicle for 1pm, when i saw one parked in the trees just west. They were turning away PAYING CUSTOMERS AND COULD HAVE SOLD A SECOND TRAM AT 1pm !! What gives DN ??
How does Delaware North of New York get away with providing so little service to guests when the previous huge corporation, MCA, took advantage of every opportunity to make money and provide service, from raft rental to a second VT tram at every hour ??
I called the lame-duck sitting Superintendent and he and his secretary blew me off. "Talk to the NPS business department." I'm calling my Senator, sucker !!
If you have not heard of the latest incompetence by NPS, just in Yosemite, not all over the USA,,,did you know that NPS tried to remove most of the motel guest housing at Yosemite Lodge on the south side of the YL road as a 'flood zone' when the whole valley always was a flood zone!-smells like removing the campgrounds was for the benefit of the rich bastards at the protected Ahwahnee Hotel- and did take the gas station out on the north side, the idiots!(what do they think cars nowadays run on), and tried to close the climber camp Camp 4 but had their dumb-asses sued successfully by the climbers and had to designate Camp 4 a "National Historic Site" !! Can you find a more incompetent federal agency(ok, the Dept. of Education,,,and the Defense Department,,,oh, and the Department of Commerce).
Where is the Sierra Club on this ?! Do they even care about Muir's park any more ? Why aren't they monitoring every move in Yosemite for the public interest and keeping us posted on their website ? Busy selling coffee table photograph books ??
ps-Expect the new 'organic' very expensive food concessionaire at Muir Woods National Monument to fail within a year , because their prices are way to high and out of reach of the average park visitor. Another 'fubar' move by NPS in picking this otherwise good company. Hey NPS, where is the multi-story parking garage Muir Woods has needed for decades, in the West meadow,,,now finally used for dirt parking ??
Why wasn't someone out there from NPS monitoring the irregular and lousy service of the free shuttle buses at Curry, the Ahwahnee, and the Lodge,,,?
Should have been 4 '90 day wonders' with one at the Village too !! This is a park on sloppy cruise control,,,
Can the gate rangers be any slower at the highway 120 gate in collecting money ??!! Geesh,,,

1 June 2010, Will California voters be street-wise again to defeat P.G.&E.'s anti-comsumer Prop.16 ,,,and both Republican Governor candidates, Meg Whitman and the other 'poser' ?
Meg Whitman is spending $Millions with a very short message full of little information. What is she afraid to say about her candidacy? That she is going to continue the failed policy of Governor Arnold S. of not taxing the rich individuals and rich excess-profit corporations enough, that got us partly into almost the worst/second Great Depression?
Seems she could have and should have paid more taxes, especially Social Security tax on her full income instead of just the 'legal' first $200k. "Deregulation" has been a failure, with smaller and smaller government unable to properly regulate banks and businesses that have cost us all jobs, savings, and a brighter future. I'll bet Meg Whitman the candidate is against salary accountability, but for take all you can get !!
This is such a wrong basic philosophy for California , now, with massive debt, and a terrible lowest-in-USA bond rating that is costing us too much. We need a strong candidate who knows the corrupt and unreliable Sacramento Machine that has disregarded the public interest for the corporate rich and individual rich lobbyists interests,,,and who can fight to return some fair and reasonable progressive tax balance to the broke and busted State of California.
Meg Whitman the candidate for state leader Governor is not talking about how she is going to fix all our potholes that make our roads, city and highway, the worst in the USA.
Whitman is not talking about how she is going to improve our state bond rating so we don't pay way too much as a State to borrow money.
Meg Whitman does not also seem to be talking about how our public school system-other than give up charter schools- is failing with superintendents taking golden parachutes and golden handshakes, when that proposition to limit school districts to a 10% administrative budget was a good idea. Teacher should just teach, and administrators and the PTA can do all the rest. To require teachers to do more than teach for so little pay just perpetuates a system where most young idealistic teachers quit the field in just a few years.
But Meg Whitman the candidate for California Governor seems to be trying to buy the office, instead of full disclosure and the willingness to lead us all, not just the already spoiled and greedy rich individuals and corporations.
Do you know what terrible secret back room tax cut deals and not so secret embarrassing deals cities and counties and the State of California have made in the past and recently ? The City of Monterey get $1/year from part of the HP massive fortune from the Monterey Bay Aquarium !? Shame on HP for making such a terrible public image deal with their smarter and higher paid lawyers, as the aquarium would not and practically could not be sited anywhere else but Monterey. How does Monterey pay for the additional policing and trash impact ? And MBAQ has many rich and generous donors,,,Shame shame shame on you HP, Packard family, and City of Monterey for making such a bad for the public interest 'deal' !!
Is candidate Meg Whitman not going to raise taxes on those that can easily afford is ,,,so California becomes even more of a third world state, with failing infrastructure that IS the State of California's responsibility ?!! Shame shame shame on you California state govt for closing the adequate and many state mental hospitals in the 1970s and kicking those legally insane and mentally ill to the sidewalks of SF !!
What is she going to do with/about the state highway dept. , CalTrans, that failed to see the east Bay Bridge should not have been repaired after the 1989 quake one top section failure, when the whole dumb thing was built on wood in 1936 in the mud and the water !!
And now CalTrans has directly cost us Californians by its incompetence in mishandling the replacement bridge contract not the original $1Billion in bloated cost,,,but over $10Billion IN COST OVERRUNS !!

And now CalTrans has directly cost us Californians by its incompetence in mishandling the replacement bridge contract not the original $1Billion in bloated cost,,,but over $10Billion IN COST OVERRUNS !!
Candidate Meg Whitman is not talking about a lot she should be talking a lot about as a possible leader. We have had too many bad Governors, like her supporter Grey Davis, the only Governor kicked out of office for lying to us about deregulating home gas and electric energy and the price would go down,,,not up, as it did,,, 4xs the first month for some. And bankrupted the state(Enron dvd,also Electric car dvd). Good riddance Grey Davis,,,and Meg Whitman,,,and do little, tax not enuf Governor Arnold S.!!

SHAME on local KTVU2, KRON4,KQED9 and nation news ABC, CBS, and NBC ,,, for not sending one camera out on 11-12pm 15 April 2010 to catch on news video the failure of the USPS in making tax drop off work !!
This year there were only 2 post offices in the entire Bay Area, Oakland and SFO Airport where i was at 1150pm unable to drop off my completed taxes because of incompetent SF traffic cops and unprepared USPS staff,,,over a hundred cars were stuck in a jam, and people were bailing out of passenger seats 2 and 3 blocks away and running in the last 15 minutes,,,
But you will never see that news footage,,,because the major new agencies were too lazy to send a news crew out at 11pm. Sad how soft and overpaid our local tv newsreaders have become,,,
