soil amendment that works better than gypsum !!
A few years ago i was looking for a way to loosen the sticky wet poor-drainage clay soil of Santa Clara Valley, aka Silicon Valley,California. For over 40 years i had tried gypsum and steer manure and chicken manure and peat moss and redwood compost and ,,,mushroom compost,,,back when you could drive up to the commercial mushroom factory and they would give you a trailer full,,,One day i was in OSH, now owned by Sears and KMart, and asked an old-timer in the garden department what i should try. He said they had a new product in , SCHULTZ-PROFILE-CLAY SOIL CONDITIONER, and i should give it a try. The results were amazing, tho it costs about $20 for a 40#bag. I have done 4 of my family's yards now and highly recommend this soil amendment. I get no kickbacks. OSH has stopped carrying it, but it is aviailable at Summerwinds, and probably other places. Ask your newspaper garden expert to try it out. It vastly improves the tilling of the soil and makes weed pulling and hoeing so much easier. So you can buy gypsum and fertilizer and compost for 40 years and more,,,or you can try this new product. Happy gardening !!
