Would California be better if we had never closed most of the perfectly adequate State Mental Hospitals?
Yes.
Was it a huge mistake for the Governor back then to say he was going to "save the state budget some money, and besides it was not the state's responsibility to care for all the thousands of mentally ill in California." Their families, like most, probably could not. Were most cities to open insane asylums?
HUGE MISTAKE.
And why did none of the churches or charities back then stage huge protests and marches to Sacramento to stop this Cruel and cost shift to cities dumb idea??
I don't remember one. Shame on all that did not.
What a black day for California, to close Agnews and sell the land to Sun Microsystems. And close Sonoma Mental Hospital to thousands of the very mentally ill now wandering around our cities , causing crime, spreading diseases, and getting sick on the streets so that fire departments are constantly helping these sick people to a hospital ER.
Does Democrat Governor ,second time around, Jerry Brown, son of Governor Pat Brown, have the heart, mind, soul, and guts to do all the good he can do for the State before his term expires?
Big if,,,
